The term "transsexual" historically referred to individuals who underwent medical interventions, such as hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgeries, to align their physical characteristics with their gender identity. However, the term has fallen out of favor in many circles due to its clinical connotations and the pathologization of transgender identities. Nowadays, many individuals prefer the term "transgender" to encompass the diverse experiences of gender identity beyond binary and medical transitions.
